LACK OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Because each Femé cafe needs to be consistently maintained, it poses as a challenge to support financially. Programs that help manage the cafes help greatly in reducing these costs and collecting a monthly income, but there are still barriers to overcome.

OVERCOMING:

→ Funding can be aided by NGOs. F.E Women of MENA in Tech receive funds from Amazon, Google, Cisco, and other agencies, as well as the government of Morocco.

→ Applying to grants with our cafe proposals

→ Applying for funding from the Moroccan government

→ Receiving funding from the United Nations

→ Open cafes up for donations (globally)

→ Many Non Profit Organizations (NGOs) offer grants to supply computers to projects, including:

World Computer Exchange, Interconnection, and Free Geek.

→ Going gradually. The pilot is just 1 cafe, but as more women become part of the community- we open more locations.

→ Each woman who is coming to the cafe to use the computers & be apart of the mentorship program has to have a membership (12 dollars per month). This cost covers a good portion of the finances.

→ We've decided to sell beverages & snacks at our cafes. The revenue from this venture will help cover the costs of maintaining the cafe as well.

→ When a woman finds a job, and wants to work remotely in our cafe: she is required to pay for the space should she work in the designated second floor area, using the cafe’s internet and computers.

Approximately 20 women will rent a computer space at $2/hr to be in the Feme environment, which contributes around $2,000 to the costs of the cafe.
